Part of the Nasivvik Centre’s mandate involves providing support for research and training of graduate students registered in a masters or doctoral degree program in which a thesis is a major component. Each year, applications are invited from students whose graduate research focuses on an issue related to the intersection between environment and health in Inuit communities. The connection to and significance of the research for an important health issue among Inuit must be explicitly described in the application. This award program is designed to support projects that are: being conducted in cooperation with an Inuit community or organization; inclusive of in-community research time, and; that have a high probability of contributing to our understanding of a specific Inuit environmental health issue as well as contributing to the student’s education in Inuit health.
Note: this competition is not designed to support projects
that examine the health of ecosystems or specific components of the environment
without inclusion of their impacts on or benefits to human health.
